RB209 & FACTS Alignment

Working with the rules, not around them

Triplex is fully aligned with RB209 and FACTS principles.
It does not replace them, bend them, or ignore them.

Instead, Triplex builds on them to improve nitrogen efficiency on farm

  • RB209 is the UK framework used to:

    • Calculate crop nutrient requirements

    • Account for soil type, previous crop and rainfall

    • Set nitrogen recommendations

Most fertiliser plans already start with RB209 — and so does Triplex.

  • RB209 does a good job of:

    • Setting sensible baseline nitrogen rates

    • Preventing under-application

    • Supporting regulatory compliance

Triplex does not argue with this.

  • Item descIn practice, many fertiliser plans:

    • Focus on applied nitrogen only

    • Treat soil nitrogen as background

    • Judge performance on yield alone

    This can hide inefficiency, because:

    • Soil nitrogen still feeds the crop

    • Total nitrogen supply can exceed crop uptake

    • Losses occur even in good-looking crops

Triplex exists to make this visible.

  • Triplex uses RB209 as the starting point, then goes one step further.

    It:

    • Uses RB209 to calculate baseline requirements

    • Properly accounts for soil-supplied nitrogen

    • Looks at total nitrogen available, not just what’s spread

    • Helps match supply to realistic crop uptake

This improves efficiency without breaking the rules.

  • Triplex is designed to be delivered through:

    • FACTS-qualified advisors

    • FACTS-aligned nutrient planning

    It supports FACTS principles by:

    • Improving nutrient stewardship

    • Reducing unnecessary losses

    • Supporting defensible recommendations

    • Providing clearer evidence for decisions

Triplex does not override advisor judgement — it supports it.

  • Triplex supports:

    • Sensible nitrogen use

    • Reduced loss risk near watercourses

    • Better reporting and justification of decisions

    • NVZ and stewardship objectives

  • For farmers, RB209 and FACTS alignment means:

    • Confidence decisions are compliant

    • Reduced risk in inspections or audits

    • Clear reasoning behind fertiliser spend

    • Better understanding of where money is lost

Triplex helps turn compliance into better value, not just box-ticking.
